PRE & POST OP PROCEDURES AND INSTRUCTIONS

Breast Lift & Augmentation

Here’s the updated Postoperative Instructions for Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift, including the new antibiotic guidelines:

Postoperative Instructions for Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift

Activity Guidelines

1. Walking:

• Walk every 2 hours for 2 minutes at a slow pace to improve circulation and prevent blood clots.

2. Sleeping Position:

• Sleep at a 30-degree angle with pillows behind your back for the first week.

• Consult Dr. Farzaneh before resuming a flat sleeping position.

3. Chest Wrap/Bra Support:

• A super supportive bra is recommended for a much longer period for breast lift procedures to reduce the chance of relapse and maintain your results.

4. Avoid Bending Over:

• Do not bend over to prevent increased blood pressure and reduce the risk of bleeding.

5. Relaxation:

• Relax your shoulders and avoid tensing neck muscles to minimize back and shoulder discomfort.

Diet and Hydration

1. Hydration:

• Drink water slowly to stay hydrated and prevent nausea.

2. Diet:

• Stick to a low-residue diet (e.g., crackers, toasted white bread).

• Avoid spicy or heavy foods like mashed potatoes for the first few days.

Medications

1. Pain Management:

• Narcotic Pain Reliever (e.g., Tylenol with Codeine): Use only if experiencing severe pain; be aware it may cause constipation.

• Tylenol 5 mg Capsules: Take every 6 hours as needed for mild pain.

2. Muscle Relaxant (e.g., Diazepam):

• Take one every 8 hours as needed for back or shoulder tightness.

3. Antibiotics:

• Keflex 500 mg: Take every 6 hours for one week unless otherwise instructed.

• For Penicillin-Allergic Patients: If you are allergic to penicillin, you may have been given Clindamycin 500 mg to be taken every 8 hours for 7 or 14 days as directed.

• If You Have Drains: Continue taking your prescribed antibiotics until the drains are removed.

4. Probiotics:

• Start taking a daily probiotic on the second day post-surgery and continue for one month.

Incision Care

1. Healing Process:

• Incisions for a breast lift typically take longer to heal than other procedures.

At times during recovery, sutures may “spit out” through the incisions. This is not uncommon—please inform Dr. Farzaneh so he can guide you appropriately.

2. Sterile Dressing:

• You may need to cover the incisions with a sterile dressing for a longer period of time to promote proper healing and prevent irritation.

3. Antibiotic Ointment:

• Apply antibiotic ointment to your incisions as directed.

4. Showering:

• After one week, you may take a full shower with antibacterial soap.

Avoid scrubbing the incisions; let soapy water gently run over them. Dry the incisions carefully with a sterile pad.

Scar Management

1. Silicone Scar Treatment:

• Begin using silicone scar tape or gel once the incisions are fully healed, and scabs have fallen off.

2. Advanced Scar Treatments:

• Over the next 6–12 months, consider treatments like laser therapy or microneedling to improve scar appearance.

Activity Restrictions

1. Driving:

• You may resume driving after one week, provided you are no longer taking narcotic pain medications.

2. Exercise:

• Avoid chest muscle exercises for at least three months.

• Refrain from cardiovascular activities like running or jogging for 4–6 weeks.

• Light walking is encouraged.

3. Lifting:

• Do not lift anything over 5 pounds above your head for the first 3–4 weeks.

Important Notes

1. Combination with Breast Augmentation:

• If you are also having a breast augmentation, follow the breast augmentation postoperative instructions alongside these.

2. Medications to Avoid:

• Avoid aspirin or other blood thinners for at least 1–2 weeks after surgery unless directed otherwise.

3. Nicotine:

• Refrain from smoking or using nicotine products for at least one week post-surgery to promote healing.

4. Nutrition:

• Eat a diet rich in protein to support tissue repair and recovery.
