Endoscopic Browlift
Here’s the revised Postoperative Instructions for Endoscopic Brow Lift, now including the updated information on Tylenol usage:
Postoperative Instructions for Endoscopic Brow Lift
General Overview
An endoscopic brow lift elevates the brows and reduces forehead wrinkles for a more youthful appearance. Following these instructions will promote healing, reduce discomfort, and enhance results.
Activity Guidelines
1. Sleeping Position:
• Sleep with two pillows or in a recliner for the first 48–72 hours to reduce swelling.
• Avoid lying flat during this period.
2. Avoid Mouth Movements:
• Refrain from excessive mouth movements, such as opening wide or chewing chewy foods. This can cause discomfort due to work done near the temporal muscles.
3. Avoid Straining:
• Avoid activities that raise your blood pressure, such as heavy lifting, bending over, or stressful situations.
Diet and Hydration
1. Hydration:
• Drink water slowly to stay hydrated and prevent nausea.
2. Diet:
• Stick to soft foods that don’t require excessive chewing for the first week.
Headache Management
1. Moderate Headache:
• It is typical to experience a moderate headache within the first 24 hours after surgery. Use Tylenol or Tylenol with Codeine as directed to manage discomfort.
Medications
1. Antibiotics:
• Keflex 500 mg: Take every 6 hours for one week (if no allergies).
• Clindamycin 300 mg: Take every 8 hours for 7–14 days if allergic to penicillin.
2. Pain Relief:
• Tylenol with Codeine: Use for severe pain, if needed. Be aware it may cause constipation.
• Use regular Tylenol for mild pain.
• Important: The total amount of Tylenol (from all sources, including Tylenol with Codeine) must not exceed 2000 mg (2 grams) in a 24-hour period.
3. Muscle Relaxants:
• Take Diazepam as prescribed for tension or discomfort.
Dressing and Incision Care
1. Head Wrap:
• A head wrap may be provided to secure dressings over the incisions. Ensure it remains snug but not overly tight.
2. Ointment Application:
• Caregivers will receive instructions on applying ointment to the incisions as needed.
3. Incisions:
• Keep incisions dry for the first 1–2 weeks. Avoid scrubbing during showers.
4. Showering:
• Use antibacterial soap during showers. After two weeks, switch to a mild baby shampoo for hair washing.
Hair Care and Regrowth
1. Hair Dye:
• Do not dye your hair for the first six weeks.
2. Hair Regrowth Support:
• Consider using Viviscal, a product shown to support hair regrowth, in case of any slight effects on hair follicles near the incisions.
Sutures
1. Removal Timeline:
• Sutures or staples will begin to be removed around day five. Most dissolvable sutures will be gone within two weeks.
2. Dissolvable Sutures:
• The majority of sutures are dissolvable and will naturally fall away as healing progresses.
