Activity Guidelines
1. Facial Movements:
• Minimize excessive facial movements for the first 48 hours, including chewing, talking, or laughing excessively.
2. Sleeping Position:
• Sleep with your head elevated on two pillows or in a recliner for the first 48–72 hours to reduce swelling.
• Avoid sleeping on your side or stomach to prevent pressure on treated areas.
3. Avoid Straining:
• Avoid activities that increase blood pressure, such as heavy lifting, bending over, or intense exercise, for one week.
Diet and Hydration
1. Hydration:
• Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and support healing.
2. Diet:
• Stick to soft foods that don’t require excessive chewing for the first 48 hours.
Medications
1. Antibiotics:
• Keflex 500 mg: Take every 6 hours for one week (if no allergies).
• Clindamycin 300 mg: Take every 8 hours for 7–14 days if allergic to penicillin.
2. Pain Relief:
• Use over-the-counter Tylenol (do not exceed 2000 mg of Tylenol in 24 hours).
Dressing, Incision, and Skin Care
1. Antibiotic Ointment:
• Apply antibiotic ointment to the small insertion sites twice daily for five days or until completely healed.
2. Compression Garments:
• Wear your compression garment or chin strap continuously for the first 48 hours unless directed otherwise.
• Afterward, wear the compression garment as advised by Dr. Farzaneh, typically for 12–16 hours daily for 1–2 weeks.
3. Skin Products:
• Avoid applying makeup, harsh skincare products, or treatments (e.g., retinoids, acids) for at least one week.
Swelling and Bruising
1. Normal Side Effects:
• Swelling, bruising, and mild tenderness are normal and may persist for up to two weeks.
2. Cold Compress:
• Use cold compresses for 15 minutes at a time during the first 24 hours to minimize swelling.
Activity Restrictions
1. Exercise:
• Avoid strenuous exercise or activities for 1–2 weeks. Light walking is encouraged to promote circulation.
2. Smoking:
• Refrain from smoking for at least two weeks before and after the procedure to ensure optimal healing.
Signs of Complications
