PRE & POST OP PROCEDURES AND INSTRUCTIONS
PicoWay Laser Treatment
Postoperative Instructions for PicoWay Laser Treatment
General Overview
PicoWay Laser is an advanced, non-invasive laser treatment designed for tattoo removal, pigmentation correction, and skin rejuvenation. Following these instructions will ensure safe healing and optimal results.
Medications
1. Valtrex (Valacyclovir):
• If you have a history of cold sores, take 500 mg twice daily for 7–10 days, starting two days prior to the procedure, to prevent outbreaks.
2. Antibiotics:
• Antibiotics may be prescribed depending on your treatment or medical history.
• Start antibiotics, such as Keflex 500 mg every 6 hours or Clindamycin 300 mg every 8 hours (if allergic to penicillin), the day before your procedure.
Immediate Post-Treatment Care
1. Redness and Swelling:
• Redness and mild swelling are normal for 1–3 days and may last longer for aggressive treatments.
• Treated areas may feel warm, and some darkening of pigmentation or tattoo ink is expected before it resolves.
2. Moisturizing:
• Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor or Vaseline to keep the treated area moisturized. Avoid excessive rubbing or touching the area.
Cleansing
1. First 24–48 Hours:
• Do not wash the treated area for the first 24 hours.
2. After 48 Hours:
• Gently cleanse the area twice daily using cool water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.
• Pat dry with a clean towel or allow to air dry. Avoid scrubbing or irritating the treated area.
Sun Protection
1. Strict Sun Avoidance:
• Stay out of direct sunlight for at least 2–3 weeks post-treatment. Avoid even indirect sun exposure through windows during this period.
2. Sunscreen Use:
• Once the skin is healed, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30+ (e.g., ZO or Obagi) to the treated areas.
• Reapply sunscreen every two hours when exposed to sunlight to prevent hyperpigmentation.
Activity Restrictions
1. Physical Activity:
• Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, or swimming for 48–72 hours to reduce the risk of irritation or infection.
2. Smoking:
• Refrain from smoking for at least two weeks before and after treatment to support healing.
Skin Healing and Aftercare
1. Crusting and Peeling:
• Some crusting or peeling may occur and typically resolves within 7–14 days. Do not pick or scratch the area to avoid scarring.
2. Skincare Routine:
• Avoid using regular skincare products (e.g., retinoids, acids, or exfoliants) until the skin has completely healed, typically 7–10 days.
• Introduce new skincare products carefully, testing on a small area first to avoid irritation.
Monitoring and Complications
1. Signs of Infection:
• Contact us immediately if you notice increased redness, swelling, warmth, or pus in the treated area.
2. Pigmentation Issues:
• Temporary hyperpigmentation (darkening) or hypopigmentation (lightening) may occur but often resolves within a few weeks to months.
Follow-Up Care
1. Healing Timeline:
• Full results may take several weeks to appear as the skin heals and pigmentation or tattoos fade.
2. Additional Treatments:
• Depending on your treatment goals, multiple sessions may be required for optimal results.
