Postoperative Instructions for Profound Treatment
General Overview
Profound Treatment is a minimally invasive procedure using radiofrequency microneedling to stimulate collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production for skin rejuvenation and tightening. Following these instructions will ensure safe healing and the best possible outcomes.
Pre-Treatment Instructions
1. Avoid Tanning and Irritants:
• Do not tan, use self-tanners, or undergo prolonged sun exposure for at least two weeks before treatment.
2. Discontinue Irritating Products:
• Stop using Vitamin A, retinoids, or similar products two days before treatment.
3. Cold Sore Prevention:
• If you have a history of cold sores or HSV-1 reactivation, take Valtrex (Valacyclovir) as prescribed:
• 500 mg twice daily for prevention, or
• 1 gram on the day of treatment if directed by your provider.
If you have any questions about your medication or preparation, contact our office.
Post-Treatment Instructions
1. Redness and Bruising:
• Mild redness and bruising are normal and may last 7–10 days. For aggressive treatments, symptoms may persist for up to three weeks.
2. Skin Care:
• Mix Aquaphor and Hydrocortisone and apply to the treated areas three times daily for the first three days.
• After three days, switch to a gentle cleanser and moisturizer.
• Be gentle when washing your face and avoid scrubbing the treated area.
3. Protect Your Skin:
• Use SPF 30 or higher sunscreen daily for at least 2–3 weeks to protect sensitive skin.
• Avoid direct sun exposure to prevent pigmentation issues.
4. Scabs:
• Small “dot-like” scabs may appear and take up to two weeks to resolve. Do not pick at the scabs.
5. Hyperpigmentation and Hypopigmentation:
• Temporary darkening or lightening of the skin may occur, especially for darker skin tones.
• This typically resolves within a few weeks but may take 3–6 months in some cases. Permanent discoloration is rare.
6. Pillowcases and Bedding:
• Change pillowcases nightly or use a clean towel to protect your bedding.
• Sleep with your head slightly elevated on the first night.
• Avoid sleeping with pets for the first 48 hours.
7. Saunas and Exercise:
• Avoid saunas, hot tubs, and strenuous workouts until the skin has healed.
8. Makeup:
• Do not apply makeup until the skin has completely healed.
Final Results
1. Healing Timeline:
• Improvements develop gradually. Most results appear within 3–6 months as collagen remodeling occurs.
2. Skincare Routine:
• Resume your regular skincare routine, including any recommended skin-lightening creams, once healing is complete.
